Welcome to season 2 of Origins! In this season, our goal is to continue to peel back the curtain on the venture capital LP community, a historically opaque corner of the startup ecosystem. The hope is that this provides concrete learnings for both venture investors as well as founders. We’ll continue to interview some of the most well respected limited partners in the business, but we also sit down with several VCs and angel investors who have deep experience with the LP community because they’ve founded their own venture firms.

Brad Feld, Foundry Group

Brad Feld hardly needs an introduction. In addition to co-founding Foundry Group, he co-founded Mobius Venture Capital almost two decades ago, as well as Techstars. So he’s as qualified as anyone in the world to discuss starting venture firms, and that’s exactly what we did in this episode.

Brad has spoken at length about starting companies and angel investing, but in this episode we dig into getting a first fund off the ground, building a firm that’s consistent with one’s belief system, and investing as a personal LP into dozens of funds including Lowercase, SoftTech, Techstars, USV, and now institutionalizing that endeavor by partnering with Lindel Eakman on Foundry Next.

And as always, you can give us a shout and let us know how we’re doing by following us on twitter. You can find Brad there too!
